About
Every printer jam, slow laptop, and Wi-Fi dead spot at the Chapter House currently waits for whichever volunteer happens to be handy. We would rather have one person who actually enjoys this stuff.
The Minnesota Valley Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is a 100% volunteer conservation chapter based in a historic Chapter House in the Minnesota River valley. Our building hosts chapter meetings, community events, the Kouba Gallery, and the Green Crew, a youth-led science-based environmental leadership and conservation service program of the chapter. None of it runs well without working technology, and working technology needs a friend.
What you will do:
- Keep the network printer updated, supplied, and on speaking terms with the network
- Clean up and tune the chapter computers so they start fast and stay healthy
- Check hardware health and flag problems while they are still small
- Optimize the Wi-Fi and troubleshoot the dead spots around the building
- Take on small, fun tech projects as they come up
When and where: Once a week for about two hours, on a day that fits your schedule, at the Chapter House, 6601 Auto Club Drive, Bloomington, MN 55438.
Who fits: You are comfortable with home and small office technology, and you like being the person friends call when the printer misbehaves. No certifications needed. Retired IT professionals, working techs looking for a low-key good cause, and confident hobbyists are all welcome. Around here, this person is affectionately known as our IT god, and we mean it as the compliment it is.
What you get: A standing welcome at the Chapter House, good coffee, and a real community of people working for clean water and wild places. Your two hours a week will visibly matter: every working computer and every fixed Wi-Fi spot directly serves volunteers, youth programs, and public events.
